Governor James Orengo has launched two sets of mobile Axle Load Weighing Instruments.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Orengo emphasized their crucial role in reducing damage to County and government roads caused by overloaded vehicles.
“The introduction of these mobile weighing instruments is essential in our efforts to protect our road infrastructure,” Orengo stated. “By ensuring compliance with load limits, we can significantly reduce the wear and tear caused by excessive loads.”
Furthermore, the Governor highlighted how the implementation of these devices would enhance accountability in cess collection on roads, which is vital for maintaining and upgrading transportation infrastructure.
“Improved accountability in cess collection will directly lead to better road conditions for our residents,” he affirmed.

Additionally, Orengo noted that the initiative is expected to boost revenue collections through the hiring of the devices and the imposition of fines and penalties on offenders.
“This not only generates revenue for the County but also serves as a deterrent against those who would compromise road safety for profit,” he explained.
The Governor also expressed his commitment to fostering collaboration between various government agencies, including the Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURRA), Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA), and the National Police Service.
“By improving our working relationships with these agencies, we can create a cohesive approach to road safety and maintenance,” he stated.
Orengo was accompanied by a delegation from KENHA, which included prominent officials such as Mr. Dennis Cheruiyot Higens, Road Superintendent Axle Load Control; SSP John Gichohi, Officer in charge of Axle Load and Highway Unit; and other key members of the team responsible for implementing and monitoring the new systems.
