Governor Sakaja Disbands Mama Lucy Hospital Board

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has disbanded the management board of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital after an expectant patient was mishandled at the facility.

The woman was captured in a video giving birth on the hospital corridors at the facility on Saturday.

It is alleged that the woman was forced to deliver on the corridors after being denied access to the maternity ward by the watchman.

The changes were announced on Monday by CEC in charge of Health, Wellness and Nutrition Dr Anastasia Nyalita who noted that the incident was disheartening and unfortunate.

“The lady arrived at the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital on Saturday, April 15 at 5.20 pm in the company of her relatives. The expectant mother complained of lower abdominal pains radiating to the back with increased intensity. The patient also complained that she could not feel regular baby movements,” read part of the statement.

In the new changes, Dr Bernard Gituma has been appointed to take over as the Medical Superintendent. Dr Emma Mutio, the current Medical Superintendent, has been posted to Pumwani Hospital as a specialist.

Dorcas Kemunto takes over as the Chairperson while Dr Bernard Gituma is the board’s secretary.

Other members are Christopher Githinji (Mtumishi), MCA,  Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Susan Wanjiru Kamau, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, Ronald Ngala Oniango and Fridah Wambui NDuati.

“We are grateful to the previous board for the services they have rendered to the people of Nairobi for the time they have served,” said CEC Nyalita.
