BY PRUDENCE WANZA- Nairobi Governor appeared before Ethics and Anti-Corruption commission (EACC) where he had been summoned to shed light on allegations of giving false information in his 2017 general election EACC self-declaration forms.
However it seems that was not the only business of the day. Chaos erupted at Integrity Centre with police firing teargas canisters to disperse the Governor’s rowdy supporters.
Amid the chaos that erupted, Sonko was filmed slapping a journalist who was covering the event as he entered the EACC premises.
The commotion lasted for a few minutes as police struggled to enforce order with traffic building up at valley road that leads to Integrity centre.
Sonko had received a letter dated 28th October from EACC informing him to appear for grilling.
“The commission would like you to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same. To this end, you are required to appear at the EACC headquarters integrity centre, Nairobi, on November 5 at 10 am to facilitate investigations,” read a letter by EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak.
The Governor is alleged to have given false information prior to his election as the Governor for Nairobi County in 2017 general election.
