Governor Waiguru Calls for Respect Among Elected Leaders to Prevent Unnecessary Conflict

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has urged elected leaders to show mutual respect and avoid unnecessary conflicts that could undermine development efforts in the region.

Addressing concerns about political tensions, Governor Waiguru warned that she will not allow other politicians to “step on her” for their own political gain. She emphasized that her silence should not be mistaken for weakness or absence from the political arena.

The Governor revealed that she is actively consulting with like-minded leaders as they strategize on a political future that benefits the people of Kirinyaga. “I want to ask the people of Kirinyaga to calm down. Kirinyaga must be at the national cake-sharing table. There is no way we can achieve the development we desire without being part of the decision-making process,” she said.

Waiguru called on leaders to concentrate on fulfilling their campaign promises instead of engaging in divisive politics. “Stop going round lying to the people. Our people are well-informed and cannot be deceived or easily swayed to vote blindly. During the last election, many who sought votes were shocked by the outcome; some even ended up in hospital,” she remarked.

She made it clear that she will not be drawn into politicking at the expense of service delivery. Waiguru urged voters to carefully scrutinize the track records of those seeking support for the 2027 elections.

The Governor also issued a stern warning to those who believe she will be irrelevant in the forthcoming political realignment, stating, “Those who think they can get to the people through the back door will be in for a shock.”

She added, “We are still working for the people, and my development record stands out for everyone to see. Some may think that because my term as governor is ending, I will be sidelined. I want to tell them Kirinyaga has its own leaders, and we will continue to be influential.”
