Embu Governors Martin Wambora has invited the Director of Criminal Investigations to investigate the actual cause of death of the two Embu brothers, Benson Njiru, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura, 19.
He also said the transfer of the top police bosses was not enough and all cops who have been harassing residents must be arrested and prosecuted.
Wambora who is also the Council of Governors chairman, spoke when he visited the family on Friday evening.
The two brothers Benson Njiru, 22, and Emmanuel Mutura, 19, were arrested by police in Kianjokoma last Sunday and their bodies were found at Embu level 5 mortuary on Tuesday.
On Friday, Wambora met with the parents; John Ndwiga and Catherine Wanjiru.
“My condolences to the family and the entire Embu County, we have lost our children who shown a brighter future and nothing can replace them. We will not like to see such a thing happening to us anytime again,” he said.
“It is sad to lose two innocent sons at the same time. The children cannot die on basis of enforcing Covid-19 protocols and nothing can justify that as the police are claiming,” he added.
He also affirmed that the postmortem was performed in presence of family representatives and international experts.
The governor contributed Sh100,000 to the family to cater for the funeral expenses.
The postmortem conducted at Embu Level 5 mortuary on Thursday, August 5 showed the two Embu brothers died from broken ribs and head injuries caused by a blunt object.
The family advocate, Muchangi Gichugu, while giving the report as was directed by the family pathologist, said Benson Njiru’s body had multiple injuries on the head and broken limbs.
“Benson had multiple injuries and we cannot attribute only the head injury as the cause of the death,” he said.
On Emmanuel Mutura’s body, the report said he had only head injuries which show he could have been hit with a hard blunt object.
“The family will pursue the criminal justice system to ensure we find justice to the two brothers Emmanuel and Benson,” he added.
On Friday, deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua ordered the transfer of Manyatta OCS Adullahi Yaya and Embu North OCPD Emily Ngaruiya as the probe into the death of two brothers in police custody continues.
Mbugua also said that he will ensure the Kianjokoma police post gets enough police officers and a vehicle to promote efficiency.
