Gov’t, ChildFund Kenya To Collaborate in Enactment of CSSF To Cater for Children Affected by Floods

The intense rains that Kenya has had over the last three weeks have impacted over 15,000 children, leaving them exposed and defenceless following their traumatic experiences.

Losing play spaces, friends, family, and familiar surroundings has a severe negative impact on children’s psychosocial well-being. Reintegrating into the classroom will be difficult, particularly if they are returning to an outdated institution.

Dr. Issa, the director of ChildFund Kenya’s programmes, paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Education to discuss working together on the implementation of the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF).

The programme adopts an “all-hazards, all-risks” approach, taking into account hazards resulting from climate change and natural disasters in order to protect students from harm in classrooms and other learning environments, support students’ rights to safety and survival, and foster their psychosocial well-being through knowledge sharing and skill development for risk reduction and resilience.

The primary objective of the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF) is to support ongoing, safe, and equitable access to high-quality education both before and after natural catastrophes.
