Gov’t disburses Ksh 22 Billion capitation for Term 2

The Government has disbursed Ksh22 billion capitation for Term 2 to support learners in all public basic education institutions across the country.

In a statement, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the funds will facilitate seamless operations in schools during the new term in line with the Government’s commitment to provide free and compulsory basic education

According to the Ministry, Free Primary Education has received Ksh1,370,196,684.55, while Free Day Junior School Education has been allocated Ksh8,900,424,491.35.

Learners under Free Day Junior School Special Needs Education have received Ksh118,417,921.35, whereas Free Day Secondary Education has been allocated Ksh11,639,872,094.40.

“The Government affirms its commitment to fulfil its duty to learners and educational institutions, in line with Article 53(1)(b) of the Constitution that entitles every child to free and compulsory basic education,” said Ogamba.

The CS further urged school heads and principals to ensure prudent use of the funds entrusted to them stating that the resources must be used solely for the benefit of learners.

“As a Ministry, we will deal firmly with any verified cases of misappropriation of resources and the imposition of unauthorized levies,” warned Ogamba.
