Govt Sets Up Command Centre at Nyayo House Nairobi

    The Government has set up a Flood Command Centre at Nyayo House in Nairobi County to document and report all flood disaster information from across the country following the establishment of a Flood Emergency Multi-Agency team monitoring the ongoing heavy rains.

    Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Internal Security, states that the team, which consists of 11 Ministries and their relevant agencies, will use a Whole of Government Approach to provide stakeholders and the public with early warning information, flood alerts, flood preparedness, safety, and emergency response information.

    Currently, four Counties including Tana River, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera have been identified as the worst hit while ten Counties including Isiolo, Samburu, Kwale, Homabay, Makueni, Tharaka Nithi, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Meru and Kisumu are on high alert.

    Five Disciplined Forces have also been co-opted into the Flood Emergency Multi-Agency team including the Kenya Defence Forces; National Police Service; Kenya Wildlife Service; Kenya Coast Guard Service; and the National Youth Service.
