Gov’t To Grow Minimum 100Million Seedlings During The National Tree Growing Day

    Cabinet Secretary Hon Soipan Tuya appeals to Kenyans to come out in large numbers and participate in the rapid tree growing exercise a day after the government gazetted Monday,13th of November 2023 as the national tree growing day for the ongoing short rains season.

    H. E President Dr William Ruto will lead the entire nation to a rapid tree growing exercise towards achievement of the 500 million seedlings during the short rains.

    Speaking during a press briefing at the Ministry’s Headquarter, CS Tuya urged all partners to identify counties within which they will participate in the tree growing exercise.

    Notably, the CS revealed that wetlands have very high potential of ecosystem restoration because of the enough rainfall experienced where she announced Kiu wetland in Makueni County as the venue where the President will lead the nation to a rapid tree growing exercise.

    The tree growing activities will be cascaded down to counties under which a whole government, whole society approach will be involved including Cabinet Secretaries who will oversee the tree growing exercise at county level.

    Tuya said that her Ministry has developed #JazaMiti Application to enable the Gov’t to keep record of Kenya’s progress towards the 15bn tree target by 2032.

    The CS was flanked by both Principal Secretaries Mr Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry) and Eng Festus Ng’eno (Environment and Climate Change) at the press briefing.
