Grace Wakhungu, a business partner of Sirisia MP John Waluke, has been freed on Ksh 20 million cash bail.
Ms. Wakhungu had appealed her 67-year prison term in a multimillion-shilling corruption case.
Wakhungu’s bid was granted by Court of Appeal justices Asike Makhandia, Grace Ngenye, and John Mativo.
The courts ordered her freedom after the DPP agreed to the bail motion, citing similarities between her case and that of her co-accused Waluke.
As a result, the court ordered Wakhungu to be freed on her prior cash bail of Ksh20 million or a bond of Ksh 30 million pending the hearing and determination of the appeal.
“Since the application for bail has not been opposed by the state, the applicant is released on the bail terms similar to those imposed by the High Court,” ruled the Appealate Judges.
Wakhungu was sentenced to 69 years in prison for failing to pay a Ksh1 billion fine imposed on her for her role in the
