A wave of grief and fury swept through the Kasarani-Mwiki community Tuesday morning, as heartbroken residents took to the streets to demand justice for a young man brutally killed by suspected gang members.
The early-morning chaos saw one of Nairobi’s busiest roads brought to a standstill.
Near St. Francis Hospital, distraught locals placed massive stones across the Kasarani-Mwiki Road, blocking all traffic and forcing motorists to seek unfamiliar, narrow feeder roads.
Others sat helplessly in their vehicles, trapped for hours in the rising heat and confusion.
The victim, whose name is yet to be released, was reportedly stabbed to death Monday morning.
His killing lit a firestorm of anger in a community already weary from insecurity and unanswered cries for help.
Public Service Vehicles and ride-hailing cabs were seen navigating through winding estate roads, struggling to bypass the blockade.
Police officers eventually arrived, urging calm, but the pain and frustration among residents could not be easily silenced.
This tragedy comes just days after a similar protest on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, where demonstrators blocked roads with burning tyres after another man was allegedly lynched by a well-known local businessman.
In both cases, the suspects remain free — a fact that continues to fuel public outrage.
As traffic crawled and tempers flared, one thing became painfully clear: the people are tired of mourning in silence.
