GSU Officers Rescued From Submerged Tana River Camp

Police officers from the Wema General Service Unit (GSU) camp in Tana Delta Sub County, Tana River, were rescued after their camp was submerged due to extensive, torrential flooding.

The rescue operation took place on Saturday, December 2, according to the NPS, after the Kenya Coast Guard Service deployed personnel for the mass evacuation of the officers who had been stranded until the Coast Guard’s intervention.
The Kenya Coast Guard was called in to assist officers who attempted to navigate the flooded waters on Saturday evening but were unable to reach higher ground.

The rescue operation comes amid a nationwide crisis, with Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura confirming a rising death toll of 142 as a result of the floods.
