President William Ruto announced on Saturday that Guinea Bissau has officially endorsed Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
The endorsement follows a meeting with Guinea Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, who is on a State visit to Kenya.
Speaking during a joint briefing at State House, Nairobi, Ruto expressed gratitude for Guinea Bissau’s support.
“I express my deep appreciation for Guinea Bissau’s endorsement of Kenya’s candidate for the AUC Chairperson position for the 2025-2028 term,” Ruto said, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to Pan-Africanism and visionary leadership.
President Embaló also inspected a military guard of honor at State House and was warmly welcomed by Ruto, who described Kenya as a “second home” for the visiting leader.
Meanwhile, Odinga continues his intense campaign for the chairmanship, recently visiting Algeria, Mauritania, and Mozambique.
He described his candidacy as focused on Africa’s unity and economic independence.
Odinga faces stiff competition from Djibouti’s Mahamoud Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato. The election is set to take place next month in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
With growing endorsements, Odinga aims to strengthen his Pan-African agenda and deliver results-driven leadership for the continent.
