Haaland and Foden Fire Manchester City to Derby Triumph as Pressure Mounts on Amorim

Erling Haaland and Phil Foden were once again Manchester United’s tormentors, as Manchester City cruised to a 3-0 victory in Sunday’s derby to reignite their Premier League campaign.

City came into the clash nine points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who maintained their perfect start with a narrow win over Burnley earlier in the day. But Pep Guardiola’s side showed flashes of their ruthless best, easing past their rivals to climb into the top half of the table.

Foden marked his first start of the season with a deft header from Jeremy Doku’s cross in the 18th minute, while United mustered only a single first-half effort through Benjamin Sesko.

After the break, City turned the screw. Haaland delicately lifted home a second following a slick move involving Nico O’Reilly, Foden and Doku. He then struck again midway through the second half after being released by Bernardo Silva, taking his derby tally to eight goals.

United rarely threatened, with Gianluigi Donnarumma denying Bryan Mbeumo and Casemiro fluffing a rare opening.

The result marked Guardiola’s 600th top-flight game as a manager and his 1,501st team goal, while piling fresh pressure on Ruben Amorim, whose Premier League win rate now sits at just 26%.

City have now scored 15 of their last 17 league goals against United through just two players — Haaland and Foden — a stat that will haunt Old Trafford supporters long after this latest humbling.
