Over the weekend, aspirants Omar Boga and Feisal Bader hosted the mother of all rallies to mark the end of the Msambweni campaigns ahead of Tuesday’s vote. – By Gerald Gekara.
However, what appears to be the ultimate endorsement, President Uhuru Kenyatta met with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) prefferred candidate Omar Boga.
The duo then posed for a photo that seemed to have sealed the mouths of any other candidate wishing to trample ODM’s choice. An endorsement from both the opposition and the ruling government.
Msambweni political race is akin to what happened in Kibera, where the proponents of the handshake, Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta poured their support behind an ODM candidate, Imran Okoth, frustrating the Deputy President’s choice, Mc. Donald Mariga.
This set the stage for another page in Kenya’s politics. The Handshake Alliance.
Initially thought to be a harmless peace process aimed at ending the longstanding feud between President Uhuru and Raila Odinga, has turned out to be a political bulldozer that has had its way past constitutional processes and political tradition.
It diminished the influence of the opposition and seeks to make constitutional changes to allow the opposition to have a seat at the helm of the government.
The same handshake has seemingly brought a foreign document the BBI, that is funded by public funds to amend the constitution and sort of bring tribal unity as opposed to animosity.
The handshake has almost successfully cast the Deputy President William Ruto into the arm of the opposition, to a point where the second in command has openly disagreed with government policy.
In conclusion, with the Msambweni vote coming to a close tomorrow, Ruto’s choice Bader might need the vote of the angels to triumph against the Handshake candidate.
