Harun Aydin Was Not Deported — DP Ruto Says

Controversial businessman Harun Aydin has allegedly flown back to Turkey on his own consent, according to Deputy President William Ruto.

In a tweet, DP Ruto said the businessman opted to go back to Turkey and avoid confrontation.

“Just talked & apologized on behalf of GoK to Aydin Harun, now in Turkey, who was politically arrested, tortured & falsely profiled as a ‘terrorist’ but later asked to fly out not to shame those involved.” Ruto tweeted.

This is contrary to an earlier statement whereby his lawyer Ahmednassir said he was deported on the eve of his court arraignment.

Harun Aydin, who was arrested after getting back into the country, was cleared by the Turkish embassy as a businessman.

According to the DP, the Turkish embassy released a statement stating that Aydin is a legal businessman with a work permit who has made significant investments in Kenya.

He claimed that tying the investor to terrorism was tarnishing Kenya’s international image.

“Turkish investor,Aydin Harun, is a victim of top-down arrogance bred by patronage & cartels that criminalize enterprise. Importers’ goods declared contraband, Africa spirits closed, Keroche harassed, now an investor with valid papers labelled a terrorist. The tragedy of political pettiness.”
