Members of the Pamoja African Alliance Party (PAA) members on Monday demonstrated in Malindi town protesting against alleged injustice in the process of nomination by the party.

The members who were led by Malindi Parliamentary Aspirant in PAA ticket Kenneth Karisa together with three other aspiring MCAs from Malindi town ward and Kakuyuni ward claimed the Party did not follow the due process in the nomination exercise which was done through interviews conducted by the board.

Carrying placards marked ‘No Karisa no PAA in Malindi’ ‘We want Nomination in Malindi’ among others the members converged at the Market village hall before marching to the town center through the roundabout, Sabaki Pharmacy area to the PAA sub-county offices in Alaskan demanding justice to be done.

They gave the party leader Amason Kingi 24 hours to intervene or else they will hold another meeting and chant the way forward to their members in the direction they will take.

Addressing journalists in the town Kenneth Karisa popularly known as Karisa Foundation said what happened on Subway and the last week was unfair because it was wrong for the board to give a verdict without explaining any reasons.

He said they are opposed to the decision of the board that resolved to issue the parliamentary ticket to Willy Mtengo a former Malindi MP as they were not told the criteria used to reach that decision.

“We needed to know what criteria was used for one to be chosen, there were opinion polls which were done and were criteria to be given the results which did not happen, how did they reach to the decision of approving one person without giving any explanation,” he said.

Sadly, he said the national elections board just announced that they had resolved to issue the ticket to one candidate and they should go and cooperate with him.

He said it is wrong if the board was compromised because the party is still young and already, they are behaving that way.

Karisa said for democracy to prevail the nomination was not supposed to consider issues of friendship or business partners the way they have established.

“From today after 24 hours we will issue another statement if the party will not sit and change the decision or call us and explain the criteria used, Malindi people are crying because they are being denied their rights.

On his part, Allan Karisa who is aspiring for Malindi town ward said he was bitter for the PAA party elections board and the top officials for just opting to make decisions that are against the majority.

He said the Governor must be aware of the decisions and gave the party 24 hours to change the decisions or else they will call for another meeting to give directions.

“We are tired of the injustices that have been done by past leadership we want justice to prevail for the people to get their rightful leaders and ensure locals get what they deserve,” he said.

He told his supporters to remain calm and continue having trust in them as they seek answers from the party that reportedly issued tickets decisions based on friendship, and tribal adding that they would ditch the party and go to another party.

Karisa said those chests thumping that they will be given tickets should know that they will meet on the ballot and will lose miserably.

Angela Mwaka an aspirant from Kakuyuni ward said the board made the wrong decision as they expected to go for the nomination but surprisingly in Kakuyuni ward, the party issued a certificate to an old guard who served as councilor for the last 20 years.

Mwaka called on the governor to intervene and give direction in the next 24 hours or else he will face massive fallout.

“Why wait for us to join the party, sell it and then dismiss us at the last minute Malindi we do not want rejects we want justice,” he said.

Fatuma Masopero a member of UDA from Kakuyuni ward said the PAA party has really disappointed them by making the decision of nominating people without using the right procedures.

She said they are the ones who have been popularizing the party since the time it was not popular and now the tickets are being given to people who have not come to the ground to campaign.

“We are giving you 24 hours tomorrow is nominations and we want the exercise to kick off nothing else without that there will be no PAA in Malindi,” she said.

Abbas Mohamed a PAA party member from Malindi said they joined the party because they thought it was from the region but the manner in which decisions for nominating candidates were done showed there were a few individuals who are spoiling the party’s image.
