Havi, Murkomen Clash Over Osotsi Attack as Goon Blame Game Intensifies

By Stacy Boit,

An explosive clash between senior officials following the recent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu, with former Law Society of Kenya(LSK) President Nelson Havi and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen trading sharp remarks over the incident.

The exchange comes in the wake of the assault on the senator, who was attacked by a group of individuals while at a restaurant in Kisumu.

In a statement on his X, Havi criticised the government, questioning who was responsible for planning the attack.

“It is the responsibility of the State to protect its citizens or tell us who is attacking the citizens. If it is not Raymond Omollo who ordered the attack, then who did? The order was given by someone! Those imbeciles seen with Omollo did not act on their own,” Havi stated.

His remarks appeared to directly reference Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, who has been mentioned by opposition leaders in connection with the incident.

Murkomen has pushed back against the accusations, placing the blame on sections of the opposition, whom he accused of sponsoring violence and mobilising youth gangs.

“I saw some of the opposition leaders mention my PS (Raymond Omollo) in a press conference. I want to dare them that they come out openly and denounce violence and the goons and the gangs and the boys they are walking around with,” Murkomen said.

The Interior CS further called on the Inspector General of Police to act swiftly against individuals involved in political violence.

“I want to ask the Inspector General of Police to move with speed and arrest all those boys they are using in their functions so that it can become a proper example that they believe in this issue of fighting gangs,” he added.

Murkomen also alleged that some opposition leaders are among those recruiting young people to engage in violence, accusing them of hypocrisy in condemning such acts.

The incident involving Senator Osotsi has since sparked national debate, with leaders from both divides sharply condemning the attack but staying divided over who bears responsibility, even as investigations into the attack continue.

The Osotsi attack has sparked a national debate, as leaders from all sides condemn the violence, still fighting over who is to blame as police look for answers.
