Health CS Nakhumicha Affirms Smooth Transition Within Social Health Authority and NHIF

The National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and the Social Health Authority (SHA) will see a seamless transfer, as stated by Health Cabinet Secretary Nakhumicha S. Wafula.

In a town hall meeting with NHIF employees, the CS underlined how crucial employee perks and welfare are. In order to achieve healthcare equality for all Kenyans, she emphasised the creation of the Social Health Authority and the passing of the Social Health Insurance Act.

Acknowledging the significance of these measures in ensuring constitutionally-aligned healthcare services that are both inexpensive and of high quality, she urged all stakeholders to engage in active involvement, collaboration, and unanimity in favour of these measures.

The Cabinet Secretary emphasised that everyone must work together to achieve this historic turning point in Kenya’s healthcare system.

The Social Health Insurance Bill of 2023 has made it possible for the 57-year-old NHIF to be dissolved and replaced with the Social Health Authority.

The Primary Health Care Fund, Social Health Insurance Fund, and Chronic Illness and Emergency Fund are the three separate funds that the new organisation will oversee. The measure designates the Primary Health Care Fund to provide community, dispensary, and health centre-based preventative and promotional primary care services.

As the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) is ready to transfer to the new Social Health Authority, it has reassured Kenyans that their payments will be safe.
