Hearing Of Petitions To Remove ‘Opaque Four’ Begins

The Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs will hold public hearings on petitions to remove four IEBC Commissioners beginning Thursday, November 24, 2022.

The petitions seek the dismissal of IEBC Commissioners Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Justus Nyang’aya, and Francis Wanderi.

Petitioners have raised a number of issues, including major violations of the Constitution and other laws, egregious misconduct, and incompetence.

The committee will hear a petition from the Republican Liberty Party on Thursday before conducting a cross-examination of the aforementioned Party.

Rev. Dennis Ndwiga Nthumbi’s petition and cross-examination will be heard next.

On Friday, a hearing on Geoffrey Langat’s petition will be followed by his cross-examination, which will be followed by Steve Owuor’s in a similar way.

Juliana Cherera and Irene Masit’s responses and cross-examination will take place on Monday, with Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyang’aya’s scheduled for Tuesday next week.
