Heavy Police Deployment In Marsabit After UDA Meeting Turned Chaotic

UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala had organized a grassroots registration exercise in the county, but while making a speech, he was jeered by the youth, forcing law enforcement officers to intervene.

On Saturday, June 3, chaos rocked the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots registration exercise at the Catholic Hall grounds in Marsabit County.

According to early reports, the chaos was caused by rival groups fighting for recognition within the UDA Party.

Following the clashes, police officers assigned to restore peace were forced to use tear gas to disperse the warring factions.

UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala had organized a grassroots registration exercise in the county, but while making a speech, he was jeered by the youth, forcing law enforcement officers to intervene.

“Please move away from this meeting.” “We know you Marsabit people are peaceful,” Malala begged the residents.

“I implore Marsabit leaders not to fight each other because the people have already elected you.” As Party Secretary General, I will remain impartial. “No candidate will benefit from this issue of shouting,” Malala stated.

Despite the chaos and disruptions, Malala declared that the UDA would register at least 15 million people. The former Kakamega Senator stated that the new members were critical in providing Ruto with more authority and ground.

“By the 2027 General Election, we hope to have registered at least 15 million members.” If we have a large number of members, we can give our President more power.”

“If we have those numbers, our President will easily be re-elected,” Malala said.

Despite Malala’s assurances, the meeting was forced to end early because the youth continued to chant rival politicians’ names.
