Heavy Rains Damages Section Of Kisumu-Nairobi Railway

A section of the Kisumu-Nairobi railway line in Muhoroni sub-county, Kisumu county, has been damaged as a result of the ongoing heavy rains.

The damage now jeopardises the Kenya Railways Corporation’s (KRC) weekly passenger and train services to the lakeside city.

According to a police report, the base of one of the pillars of the railway bridge at Kibigori was swept away by raging flood waters.

According to the report, the soil beneath the bridge that was supporting the line has also caved in.

The damage now poses an immediate threat, necessitating immediate action to avert a disaster.

The KRC metre gauge railway train travels to Kisumu twice a week, on Monday and Friday, for both passengers and cargo.

Kisumu County has been devastated by the ongoing rains, with sub-counties such as Nyando, Kisumu East, Kadibo, Muhoroni, and Nyakach particularly hard hit.
