The High Court has stayed an order evicting thousands of residents from the Nairobi neighborhoods of Njiru, Chokaa, and Mihang’o on 1,000 acres of land held by late politician Gerishon Kirima until January 29, 2024.
On Wednesday, November 22, 2023, the Environment and Land Court granted interim orders suspending the order to have settlers leave the land by the end of the year to pave way for the hearing of a suit filed by over 680 residents led by Joseph Omito.
The judge also urged the residents, the family of Kirima and all parties involved to engage in an out-of-court settlement in a bid to have the dispute resolved expeditiously.
