Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has secured a temporary reprieve after the High Court halted disciplinary proceedings initiated by the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
The party was scheduled to grill Orwoba on Friday, May 16, over alleged disloyalty and conduct violations.
Justice Lawrence Mugambi issued a conservatory order suspending the disciplinary process pending a full hearing of the case.
“That pending hearing and determination of this application, a conservatory order is hereby issued suspending disciplinary proceedings by the Respondent against the Petitioner,” read the ruling.
The UDA had summoned Orwoba over three incidents, including her attendance at a homecoming event for former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, welcoming him at JKIA, and a media interview where she criticized the government’s labour mobility program.
The party accused her of aligning with rival political movements and undermining UDA’s agenda.
In response, Orwoba, through her lawyer Moses Mabeya, moved to court seeking to stop what she termed as politically motivated harassment.
This latest dispute adds to the senator’s turbulent political journey. Earlier, Orwoba faced a six-month Senate suspension for allegedly making unverified corruption claims in a parliamentary WhatsApp group.
The Senate’s Powers and Privileges Committee ruled her conduct breached parliamentary ethics.
With the disciplinary proceedings now on hold, the political storm surrounding Orwoba enters a new legal phase, as the court prepares to fully examine the merits of her case.
