A 16-year-old boy died after being mauled by a hippopotamus in Tana River County.
Mohammed Abdi Sambul was killed in an incident in Saka, Madogo.
“The boy was attacked by a hippo along the banks of the Tana River. The animal was grazing nearby when it charged at the deceased, crushing him with its powerful jaws “Citizen Digital was informed by residents.
Attempts by locals to wade in and save the boy were futile because the hippo’s massive jaws had long clamped down on the teenager, killing him on the spot.
Locals have urged the relevant authorities to assist in dealing with the hippos’ constant attacks.
