Residents of Mwiki Phase 3 are reeling in shock and anger after the brutal rape and murder of 18-year-old Abigael Wina Wanjiku on Thursday night.
The young woman was found with multiple stab wounds and severe head injuries in what has been described as one of the most gruesome attacks in the area in recent memory.
According to Kasarani Sub-county Criminal Investigations Officer (SCCIO), Abigael was stabbed five times in the stomach and once in the neck.
A blood-stained kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene. Detectives also found a cooking pan suspected to have been used to inflict blunt-force trauma to her head.
Preliminary investigations suggest the teenager was sexually assaulted before being murdered.
The discovery of her body sparked outrage in the community, with residents taking to the streets in protest. Roads were barricaded as demonstrators demanded swift justice and better security for women and girls in the area.

Abigael’s body has been moved to the Kenyatta University Hospital mortuary as detectives begin a full forensic investigation. Authorities have vowed to pursue every lead, while locals are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The brutal killing adds to growing public concern over rising cases of gender-based violence and femicide in Kenya.
