The Ministry of Health has issued a stern warning to health centers and custodians of the vital COVID-19 vaccine doses. – By Gerald Gekara.
This is after rumors going round that health practitioners were lining up families and wealthy individuals for the critical vaccine jabs, contrary to the guidelines set out by the ministry.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the doses distributed to health care centers spread out in the country are being monitored and each of the officers will be accountable for each dose.
“Should any health care provider be found distributing the vaccine to patients not specified in the vaccine roll out plan, you will have your license revoked, and dire measures will be taken.” CS Kagwe said.
So far, Kenya has received over 1.12 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from India to aid the exercise. 100,000 doses were donated by the government of India & the rest were acquired through the COVAX facility.
The ministry of health also confirmed a total of 530,000 have already been distributed to regions.
Out of these, a paltry 40,359 health and other frontline workers countrywide have been vaccinated.
