How Coronavirus saved Ruto’s political career

Prior to the Corona virus lockdown, DP William Ruto was a man under siege. — By Prudence Wanza

From the major fallout with President Uhuru Kenyatta over the BBI implementation programme to the loud reggae beat spearheaded by Raila Odinga and the wild political dance practice pitting Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula and a host of willing governors, the DP’s political life was in turmoil.

So bad was the situation, that he lost his cool and accused unnamed people of
Influencing the system, read government machinery to kill him.
And then his bodyguard was murdered in cold blood…his political fixer Rashid Echesa arrested over an arms deal gone sour…

As if this was not enough, his entire propaganda team led by Dennis Itumbi was fired…as the system flexed its muscles to prove just who was in charge in town.

And now things have moved from bad to the worst…with the Corona Crisis, the DP will have to watch from a quarantine distance as health minister Mutahi Kagwe steals the show in the management of the Corona Virus…

During the Saturday 21st national prayer day, there were no handshakes…just cold stares as the country rallied around its religious leaders to pray for the end of the scourge that has killed thousands of people, especially in Italy which is the epicenter of the problem.

DP Ruto will thank the Corona lockdown for arresting the reggae spread…to afford his troops time to regroup.. and tidy up his presidential career.
His enemies are plotting for the political kill…and were determined to confine the DP influence to his native Kalenjin nation.

At his Kalenjin compound, Gideon Moi is aiming a dagger at Ruto, in a bid to reclaim the Chamge nation’s control from the hustler.
Gideon is buoyed by his anointing by former President Moi.
And he has history on his side.

During the Moi Presidency, the system allowed the likes of Professor Saitoti, Professor Karanja and Mwai Kibaki to “warm” the Kikuyu leadership seat for Uhuru Kenyatta to come of age.
When he did, the system dismantled the political careers of these politicians one by one.. until Uhuru took over the GEMA nation leadership.

Is this what Gedion now wants to see?
It will be recalled that the war on graft has targeted known DP Ruto cronies.
They are now fighting for their survival in various courts…with no cash or support

Now the DP, like every one else has to wait for the Corona dust to settle….
And hope by then he can have formed a new alliance to propel him back to the Presidential track.

Before the Corina outbreak, his goose had been cooked…but now he has a remote chance of bouncing back and neutralising his enemies..
