A gruesome discovery of human body parts in sacks shocked residents near Riverside Bridge along Mathare River in Kariobangi on Saturday.
The sacks, believed to contain dismembered body parts, were spotted early in the morning by locals.
Habib Omar, a human rights activist from the Kariobangi Social Justice Centre, confirmed that the remains appear to have been disposed of in separate sacks, with one sack seemingly holding most of the body.
It remains unclear if the parts belong to one individual or multiple victims, and whether they were dumped at the site or carried there by the river.
Frustrated residents reported waiting for the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from the homicide unit since 7 a.m., as crowds gathered at the scene.
Starehe OCS, one of the first responders, urged the crowd to remain calm amid growing agitation over the delayed police response.
The incident has heightened concerns in Mathare, as the country grapples with increasing cases of forced disappearances and unexplained killings.
The discovery has sparked widespread calls for a thorough investigation, with residents demanding swift action to address the escalating insecurity in the area.
