CS Amb. Amina Mohammed has lost her husband, Mr Khalid Hossain Ahmed
After a brief illness, the publicity-shy industrialist died at Karen Hospital about 5 a.m. on Thursday morning, according to his family.
Amina Mohammed worked in international organizations and government while her late husband, Ahmed, was a consummate entrepreneur.
They have two children together and have raised four orphans.
CS Mohammed has now lost her second close relative in a four-month period that has been painful for her.
Esmael Mohamed Jibril, her younger brother, died in March 2021 while having treatment in India.
President Uhuru Kenyatta condoled with the family, saying Mr. Khalid was a great and respected gentleman in society.
“I have received the disheartening news of the passing away of Mr. Khalid Ahmed with great sadness. Ahmed was a great person, a gentleman, and a strong pillar of his family,” Uhuru said.
“My deepest condolences to my colleague and friend Cabinet Secretary Amina, the children, and the extended family as they come to terms with the sudden passing away of Ahmed. I pray that God, the Almighty grants you the fortitude and grace to go through this difficult period of mourning your beloved spouse, father, and relative.”
Chief Justice Martha Koome mourned Mr. Khalid as a generous philanthropist who supported children, orphans, and the marginalized.
“He was a firm believer in the rule of law and champion of just causes in every community in which he was a member. May God provide comfort to my sister, her children, and the entire family and give them the grace to bear this terrible loss,” she added.
Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho prayed for peace to the family.
“Mombasa mourns with our sister CS Amb. @AMB_A_Mohammed following the demise of her husband Mr. Khalid Ahmed. I extend my profound condolences to my sister and her entire family. It is our sincere and humble prayer to the Almighty Allah SWT to grant you patience and strength.”
