Hussein Marjan Takes Over IEBC

Hussein Marjan has been chosen as the next CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, ahead of the 2022 August elections.

According to IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, after advertising for the job of Commission Secretary/CEO, the Commission shortlisted 5 applications.

“On March 8, 2022, interviews for the job were held, and Hussein Marjan emerged as the most qualified and fit for the role,” Chebukati added.

The nomination effectively confirms Marjan as the permanent CEO, having previously served in an interim role since October 2017.

Marjan was formerly the Deputy Commission Secretary for Support Services, a role he held since April 2015.

He was named acting CEO after the contentious removal of Ezra Chiloba, who had a public spat with Chebukati.

Chebukati said ten individuals have been shortlisted for the vacant Deputy Commission Secretary job, and that the Commission will hold interviews today, March 9th, and Thursday, March 10th.
