‘I Didn’t Have Super Glue’ — Driver Walks Free in Insurance Sticker Case

Written By Joyce Nzomo

Fredrick Mwiti was on Friday arraigned before the Thika Law Courts for failing to display the insurance certificate on his vehicle, a traffic offence under the Kenyan Traffic Act.

Mwiti was arrested on the morning of July 11, 2025, along the Thika-Garissa Road in the Makongeni area during a routine traffic check. Upon inspection, traffic officers noted that although his vehicle was insured, the insurance sticker was not visibly displayed, prompting his arrest and subsequent arraignment.

Appearing before the court, Mwiti pleaded guilty to the offence but offered a candid explanation. He told the magistrate that he did, in fact, possess a valid insurance sticker but had not managed to fix it onto the windshield as he lacked super glue. He further apologized and assured the court that he would rectify the issue immediately and not repeat the mistake.

The court, taking into account his guilty plea, honest explanation, and lack of prior offences, opted for a lenient approach. Mwiti was released with a stern warning, rather than facing a fine or jail time.
