I Gave Gachagua Money To Campaign – Sudi Claims

Oscar Sudi Alleges He Funded Gachagua’s 2022 Campaign, Disputes Former DP’s Claims

Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has alleged that he financially supported former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the 2022 general elections, contradicting Gachagua’s past claims about self-funding his campaign efforts.

Speaking on Tuesday, April 22, Sudi accused Gachagua of misleading the public by asserting he personally financed President William Ruto’s campaign in the Mount Kenya region. According to Sudi, Gachagua lacked financial resources at the time and received campaign funding from allies.

“Rigathi Gachagua knows how much I gave him to campaign,” Sudi said. “He goes around lying to people that he funded the campaigns. Let’s be honest, Gachagua didn’t even have a single cent.”

While Sudi did not disclose the exact amount he claims to have contributed, he dismissed suggestions that Gachagua was chosen as Ruto’s running mate due to his financial clout or political mobilization skills.

“We picked Gachagua for strategic reasons and because he was older. Ndindi Nyoro was the preferred choice for Deputy President, but we feared his youth might be used against him,” Sudi explained. “So we settled on Gachagua, but it turned out he had a lot of issues.”

This follows comments Gachagua made in an August 2024 TV interview, where he insisted he independently funded the UDA presidential campaign in Mount Kenya, saying, “I’m a rich man. I made a lot of money during the Kibaki government and I financed UDA campaigns without receiving a penny from President Ruto.”

Gachagua was later impeached on October 18, 2024, with the Senate upholding the National Assembly’s decision to remove him from office.
