I support Church intervention in the killing of the elderly – Ganze MP

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire has urged the neglected elderly to join Christianity the county marks Awareness Against Elderly Abuse. – By Ramadhan Kambi.

“As we celebrate the month on “Awareness Against Elderly Abuse” in the world, I was among the invited guests at the consecration of the Christ the King ACK Church, Jila which was built courtesy of the Rtd. General Samson Mwathethe Jefwa.”

He said the idea was borne by church leaders in Malindi.

“The two newly crowned Malindi Diocese Ambassadors proposed that I spearhead bringing the formerly suspected & practitioners of witchcraft and / or sorcerers who are hosted at Kaya Godhoma to join the church and be converted to Christianity so that their lives can change for the better. This was indeed the best proposal at the right place and time,” the MP said in a statement.

Mr Mwambire who is also the Secretary of the Coast Parliamentary Group (CPG) said he had been reaching out to all denominations to and had in fact considered starting a worship centre near Kaya Godhoma.

“There has been a very strong resistance since 2009 when I floated the idea but now that the Anglican Church has expressed interest, I believe my dream will crystallize into a reality,” he said.

Mr Mwambire said that he been involved in the affairs of the Kaya Godhoma Rescue Centre right from the onset because of his belief in Human Rights & the love of God.

“Though its a tricky assignment, saving & changing people’s lives is a special calling on earth. Convincing a dedicated witchcraft practitioner to be demobilized and live a normal life has been a very big challenge to especially by a Christian like me. However, if you read the history of the Giriama resistance & later how the Giriama nation has been handling such critical situations in the society, definitely as a leader and someone who believes in mankind will get inspiration,” he said.

During the event last week Governor Kingi said it was time that the MP brings 5o Church the accused elders who are currently being housed at the shrine in Sokoke ward after they were chased out of their villages by their members for witchcraft allegations.

“Mr Mwambire, I know you love these elders and you infact made sure that they have a special place bro stay away from their families. Now you can as well take them to Church and have them listen to the word of God for a possible change in their lives,” the Governor said.

Kilifi county has recorded several cases of elders being killed on allegations of being witches.

For those who have managed to escape the wrath of their families have sought a shelter at the shrine.
