Hon. Peninah Malonza, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Wildlife, and Heritage, presided over the ceremonial puck drop for the Kenya Ice League Friendship Tournament.
The tournament will be held at the Panari Hotel ice rink in Nairobi from January 4–7, 2023.
Malonza stated that tourists to Kenya will have a range of sports to select from, including horse racing, football, rugby, cricket, and polo. Other year-round sports include water sports, ice hockey, and polo.
“Ice Hockey is among the innovative sports tourism activities which are relatively new in Kenya and whose potential has not been fully exploited. Aggressive tourism marketing is, therefore, mandatory to draw more local and international tourists,” said Malonza.
She added, ” The Ministry of Tourism will develop favourable tourism policies, strategies and regulatory environment to catalyze the growth of innovative sports tourism activities such as ice hockey in light of increasing tourist traffic and earnings.
