National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has raised questions about how Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sons were able to secure a loan of Ksh. 600 million.
In a recent interview with NTV, Ichung’wah expressed skepticism, asking, “Sons who have never borrowed a loan of even Ksh. 600 thousand all of a sudden, because you are sons of the Deputy President, can access loans of Ksh. 600 million?”
The Deputy President’s sons, Keith Ikinu and Kevin Rigathi, are currently facing corruption allegations in connection with an ongoing impeachment motion against their father.
The accusations suggest that Gachagua used his family to amass Ksh. 5.7 billion through questionable business deals.
One of the claims involves the sons allegedly acting as proxies in a controversial mosquito net procurement deal, as stated by former Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) boss Andrew Mulwa.
However, Gachagua has strongly denied these accusations, maintaining that his sons have legitimate careers—Keith as a medical doctor and Kevin as a software engineer.
He has argued that these allegations are politically motivated and has emphasized that his wealth dates back to before his time in office. He also urged politicians to stop involving his family in political matters.
Despite Gachagua’s defense, the family’s financial activities remain under scrutiny as the impeachment proceedings continue to unfold.
