National Assembly Majority Leader and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah is mourning the death of his father, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the passing in a statement shared on Thursday, September 4, 2025, via his official social media accounts.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of the Kikuyu MP and Leader of Majority, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah, following the passing of their patriarch, Mzee Isaac Ichung’wa Ngugi,” Wetang’ula stated.
Mzee Ngugi, who died peacefully in his sleep at his Kikuyu home, lived to the remarkable age of 105. Wetang’ula described him as a man whose century-long journey left a lasting impact, saying his legacy would be cherished for generations.
Ichung’wah, a close ally of President William Ruto, has often credited his late father for shaping his values and leadership path. He has spoken publicly about the discipline, resilience, and work ethic instilled in him by Mzee Ngugi.
The passing of Mzee Ngugi comes as Ichung’wah continues to play a central role in Kenya Kwanza politics, steering parliamentary debate and championing government policies in the House.
Condolence messages are expected to pour in from political leaders and the public, with many likely to remember Mzee Ngugi as a symbol of resilience who witnessed Kenya’s journey from colonial rule to a modern republic.
