The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the recovery of the bodies of six hostages from Gaza, including British-Israeli Nadav Popplewell, following a complex overnight operation in the Khan Younis area.
The deceased, who were kidnapped during Hamas’s October 7 attacks, included Yagev Buchshtab, Alexander Dancyg, Avraham Munder, Yoram Metzger, Chaim Peri, and Mr. Popplewell.
The IDF, in collaboration with the Shin Bet security agency, conducted the operation on Monday.
Five of the deaths had already been confirmed, though it was previously believed that Avraham Munder might still be alive.
The Hostage Families Forum stated that the recovery provided “necessary closure” for the families and emphasized that the return of the remaining hostages “can only be achieved through a negotiated deal.”
Current estimates suggest 105 hostages remain in Gaza, with 71 believed to be alive.
Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant reiterated Israel’s commitment to “dismantling Hamas” following the operation.
Meanwhile, ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire and hostage release are being led by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who is currently in the Middle East pushing for an agreement.
