The victims of the post-election violence of 2007/8 are demanding that the 2022 elections be postponed until they have been completely paid and resettled.
Internally displaced people expressed their dissatisfactions under the banner of Kenya Internally Displaced Persons Organization, accusing successive governments of tossing them around.
The IDPs, led by Peter Tena, the organization’s head, said it was terrible that the relocation issue had become a political campaign issue.
Tena said the president should consider deferring the elections until the IDPs are resettled, speaking in Nakuru after meeting with hundreds of IDPs.
Kenya is set to go for elections in August 2022. However, since the events of the 2007/8 post-election violence, thousands are yet to be resettled nearly 14 years later.
The displaced Kenyans have been the subject of numerous political campaigns with promises of being resettled.
