IEBC Set To Conduct Second Simulation Of Results Transmission

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is scheduled to hold its second simulation exercise for the electronic transmission of poll results on Tuesday, July 19.

On Sunday, the Commission’s Chairperson Wafula Chebukati stated that the electoral body is committed to conducting a free, fair, and successful election and urged all political stakeholders to collaborate with the Commission in case of any concerns to ensure a successful and seamless election.

The simulation exercise is intended to identify challenges with the transmission of electronic copies of election results used to compile provisional election results at the National Tallying Center.

Electronically transmitted results are only used to generate a provisional tally, with the IEBC required to verify physical statutory forms before declaring an election’s winner.

The first simulation exercise was held in June 2022.

During the exercise at the Bomas, a simulation of result transmission from 2,900 centers from 1,450 wards was carried out.

According to Chebukati, no one should be able to interfere with the networks and channels used in the transmission of results on August 9.

The commission put up a strong fight against election stakeholders in order to assure Kenyans of a credible process in comparison to the previous poll.

Nonetheless, the simulation if successful will put politicians and human rights activists at peace expecting and hoping for a seamless exercise in the upcoming general elections.
