The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to investigate utterances made by Gatundu MP Moses Kuria on vote-rigging.

IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati announced this on Wednesday during the swearing-in of CEO Marjan Hussein.

“We are aware of what he said but people always have their versions of what they said. So our investigation team is probing before we summon him,” Chebukati said.

Speaking during the UDA party NDC on Tuesday, the lawmaker claimed that he and other political leaders whom he did not mention rigged 2017 general elections in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Dp William Ruto.

“Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura,” Kuria stated.

Kuria following public uproar had retracted his statement saying he was misquoted adding that the utterances were not what he meant.

On Tuesday night, Jubilee Party Vice Chair David Murathe said that IEBC should summon Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria to shed light on his vote theft remarks.

“Kuria should go to IEBC together with the people he mentioned and explain how the rigging happened. We are not aware of any rigging that took place.

“If he has any evidence that there was rigging, he should be in jail,” Murathe said on a local television station on Tuesday.
