The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Douglas Kanja, on Thursday joined Interior Cabinet Secretary Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen for the 45th Jukwaa la Usalama Forum in Wajir County, continuing the Northeastern regional series that began earlier in Mandera on September 22.
Held at the Wajir County Commissioner’s grounds, the forum brought together youth leaders, religious representatives, security officers, local administrators, business leaders, and elected officials for candid discussions on security and governance.
The initiative, launched earlier this year, is designed to give citizens a platform to voice concerns and work jointly with government in strengthening peace and safety.
CS Murkomen commended Wajir residents for their unity and collaboration with security agencies, noting that the county has become one of the safest in Kenya with minimal crime reported. “Your spirit of cooperation is an example for the rest of the country,” he said.
IG Kanja echoed the sentiments, praising the strong partnership between the public and police in Wajir. Addressing officers, he stressed that their core mission is to provide the best service possible and assured them that concerns over their welfare had been noted for action.
He called for even deeper collaboration with communities in policing matters to sustain peace gains.
Earlier in the day, the IG accompanied the CS on a courtesy call to Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, who also attended the forum alongside local leaders, including MP Mohamed Aden Daudi.
The high-level security delegation included DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli, DCI Director Mohamed I. Amin, GSU Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, Northeastern Regional Commissioner John Otieno, Regional Police Commander Pepita Ranka, and NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
