The Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has said that investigation into an officer who was caught on camera breaking and smashing the Azimio media vehicle during a protest on Thursday is still ongoing.
According to Koome, if the officer is found guilty, he will face the same charges as any other Kenyan involved in criminal activity.
During demonstration coverage, the Azimio team’s media vehicle is always the host of the mainstream media.
At the same time, Koome apologized to journalists who were injured by police while covering protests, saying the injuries were not intentional but rather accidental.
Under his leadership, the police chief promised that the media and the police would coexist peacefully to promote the common goal of serving Kenyans.
Koome was speaking at the Kenya School of Government, where interviews for the new deputy inspector general of police are taking place.
