Japhet Koome, the Inspector General of Police, has issued a warning to police officers who break the law.
Koome stated that the service will not tolerate officers’ conduct that is contrary to their duty to the public.
“It should be clear that the NPS will not condone or protect any officer found abusing his or her powers or privileges, or engaging in any other action that can bring disrepute to the image of the police,” he said.
On Saturday, he issued a statement in response to a viral video showing a police officer harassing a member of the public.
The IG condemned the officer’s actions, saying they did not reflect the core values of the National Police Service (NPS).
“The National Police Service’s attention is hereby drawn to an online video depicting a Police Officer harassing and threatening a member of the public while armed and appearing intoxicated,” he stated.
Koome stated that the service is deeply concerned and strongly condemns the officer’s misconduct.
He stated that the majority of officers are patriotic to their country and are dedicated to serving and protecting Kenyans.
