IG Mutyambai To Proceed On Terminal Leave, Replacement To Be Named

Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has been greenlighted to proceed on terminal leave as he battles ill health.

The announcement was made by President William Ruto on Tuesday as he unveiled his Cabinet at State House Nairobi.

The head of state pointed out that he will announce Mutyambai’s replacement later in the day.

“After discussing with Mutyambai and in consideration of his service to our nation and his health situation, I have accepted that he will proceed on terminal leave,” President Ruto said.

Mutyambai’s contract as Inspector General of Police was up in six months.

After becoming ill in August, he was admitted to the Aga Khan Hospital’s High Dependence Unit.

After his health stabilized, he was transferred to the general ward a few weeks ago.

Mutyambai was appointed Police Inspector General in April 2019 by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He took over for Joseph Boinnet, who was chosen from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to replace David Kimaiyo.
