The ongoing disarmament programme in Samburu County is gaining momentum, with security agencies reporting increased community cooperation following sustained sensitisation efforts.

The initiative, currently underway in Suguta Mar Mar Ward, which began in February 2023 under the name ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu’, is being conducted jointly by the National Police Service (NPS), National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and other security agencies.

Authorities said the programme focuses on educating residents about the dangers of illegal firearms and encouraging voluntary surrender of weapons.

As part of the progress recorded, one individual voluntarily surrendered an illegally owned AK-47 rifle along with four rounds of ammunition.

Police said the development reflects growing public confidence in the disarmament process and highlights the impact of continuous community engagement.

The National Police Service stated that the programme will remain active, with continued outreach and enforcement efforts aimed at enhancing safety and security in Samburu County.
