The Kenya Revenue Authority-KRA has destroyed non-compliant beverages seized from the market, estimated to be worth 30 million shillings plus 3.4 million shillings in taxes.
The products, which included various brands of bottled water totaling 243,000 litres, were destroyed at the Weeco Recycling Industry EPZ Limited facility in Athi River.
The beverages had no stamps and were affixed with counterfeit excise stamps, according to KRA.
To comply with the Excisable Goods Management System Act Regulations-EGMS, bottled water beverages manufactured or imported into the country must bear excise stamps.
As part of its commitment to combating illegal trade, the KRA has been destroying counterfeit goods.
