Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo has finally responded to online trolling by Kenyans, saying he is enjoying it.
Over the last four days, Kabogo has been on the receiving end over his educational background and dressing.
Some Kenyans have questioned his academic background, expressing doubt over Kabogo’s suitability to lead Kenya’s digital revolution on account of his education.
In particular, a photo of the CS clad in a baggy pristine white shirt, a red necktie, tight brown khaki trousers, a pair of brown socks with black stripes, and brown safari shoes went viral on social platforms, sparking wild reactions from Kenyans.
The image began circulating on Saturday, May 10, drawing a strong stream of banter, mockery, and laughter, with critics questioning his sense of fashion.
But beyond the memes and mockery, some Kenyans raised concerns about public figures and their dressing, with some claiming the outfit did not match his role as a CS.
“The ICT CS Kabogo’s meme challenge has taken over on the Internet since yesterday from Gen Z. Indeed, Kenyans are ungovernable,” commented an online user.
However, despite initially remaining quiet over the issues, the CS, on Tuesday evening, responded to one of the posts. In his response, Kabogo downplayed the trolls, claiming they did not bother him.
Taking to his X account, the ICT minister wrote: “I am enjoying it, if no one makes such, you need to be very worried,” suggesting that he was not upset by the posts.
Netizens poked fun at what they perceive as his lack of ICT knowledge, creating elaborate jokes and memes that portray him as technologically unskilful.
One meme making rounds featured a fictional exchange in which Kabogo allegedly confuses web browsing with traditional brew muratina.
The post read, “ICT guy: Ati Bwana CS, unaweza tumia Chrome ku-browse. Kabogo: Apana Chrome, nipewe muratina”.
Another joke featuring the CS read, “Ati umesema wewe ni coder? Wa route gani?”
