The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Mr.Douglas Kanja, today, 27 May 2026, attended Rwanda National Police (RNP) Day in Kigali, following an invitation from the Inspector General of the Rwanda National Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, and the Government of the Republic of Rwanda.

Rwanda National Police Day commemorates 25 years of the existence of the law enforcement body. The RNP was conceptualised in the year 2000 through the merging of three policing units — the National Gendarmerie, the Communal Police and the Judicial Police — into the current Rwanda National Police.

This auspicious day also featured a display of pomp and colour, with exhibitions focusing on strategic projection and readiness to serve the populace in a rapidly changing policing environment.

The ceremony also included the commissioning of 436 officer cadets, which was presided over by the President of the Republic of Rwanda, His Excellency Paul Kagame. The cadets are expected to carry forward the future aspirations and readiness of the Rwanda National Police.

IG Kanja was among 13 other invited inspectors general from various countries.

Accompanying the Inspector General were the Director of the Kenya National Focal Point on Small Arms and Light Weapons (KNFP), Mr.Adamson Bungei, SAIG; the Director of Training at the NPS, Mr.Hassan Aljir, AIG; the Director of Corporate Communication and NPS Spokesperson, Mr.Muchiri Nyaga, AIG; the Director of Administration and Finance at RECSA, Dr.Eunice A.
