Interior Ministry Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i has tasked the National Government Administrative Officers to step up engagement with the local leaders and leverage on cooperation and information-sharing with civilians.
“Terrorists and their sympathizers have no place in Kenya. Once again, we will make no distinction between the two categories. Those who harbor terrorists will be treated with the same veracity we treat terrorists,” the CS affirmed.
Security Situation
Earlier, the President had ordered for radical changes in the approach to the security situation in the Northeastern region of Kenya.
Dr. Matiang’i also warned that chiefs will be held personally responsible for not identifying recruiters, radicalizers and operatives within their areas.
He further said that all chiefs and their understudies should operate within the areas of jurisdiction.
“Those who do not comply with the directive within two weeks will be sacked,” he announced.
He also ordered for the immediate reactivation of the local peace committees and community outreach to complement the government’s security efforts.
